If you are looking for the male gland, you want the word prostate. These two similarly spelled words may only be off by a letter, but they are completely different in meaning. As already mentioned, p-r-o-s-t-a-t-e is a part of the male reproductive system. It’s a gland with a very important job and requires attention and monitoring as men get older. The other word p-r-o-s-t-r-a-t-e has a few means: 1) lying face down and flat, as in submission 2) cause to lie flat 3) render one helpless or defenseless.
While one could lead to the other, meaning unchecked prostate issues could render you helpless, but for the most part these two words actually have little to do with one another. One might argue that you should be prostrate to your prostate, meaning that you should bow down to your prostate health because it is necessary to your reproductive health.
It’s common for many men to suffer from an enlarged prostate as they get older. When this occurs, there are a number of symptoms of an enlarged prostate. These include:
Frequent urges to urinate
Having difficulty maintaining a steady stream of Urine
Feeling unable to clear your bladder
Losing sexual function
Suffering from erectile dysfunction
The prostate is a walnut sized gland where semen is produced. Semen is very important to reproduction and without it; the sperm wouldn’t be able to make in through the vagina to the unfertile egg. The prostate produces semen not only to carry the sperm but to also protect them in a coating of fluid that can weather the acidic environment of the vagina.
But I digress, back to the battle of words. Just remember that if you don’t pay attention, visit your doctor and keep your prostate health up as you age, then the problems may leave you prostrate.
